    Msgr. Peter J. Elliott, MA (Oxon.), MA (Melb), STD.  Msgr. EIliott was born in Melbourne, Australia, in 1943, into an Anglican family, his father being a pastor. After completing secondary education in 1961, he studied history at the University of Melbourne, obtaining the B.A. Hons. 1965, M.A. 1967. While studying at Oxford, he was received into the Catholic Church in 1968. He graduated in theology at Oxford in 1969. He then entered Corpus Christi Seminary, Melbourne, and was ordained a priest of the Archdiocese in 1973. After working as assistant priest in two parishes, he became secretary to Auxiliary Bishop John Kelly in 1979. He became well-known as a popular religious writer and speaker, specializing in sacramental theology, liturgy, apologetics and history. In 1984 he commenced doctoral studies in Rome at the John Paul II Institute for the Family, Lateran University. 

    His thesis was later published as, "What God Has Joined: the Sacramentality of Marriage" (1990, Alba House, New York). He became an Official of the Pontifical Council for the Family in 1987, and was named a Chaplain of His Holiness in 1992. He has represented the Holy See and the Pontifical Council for the Family at various international meetings and was a member of the Delegation of the Holy See at the International Conference on Population and Development, Cairo, 1994, and the International Summit on Social Development, Copenhagen, and the Fourth World Conference on Women, Beijing, 1995.
